MATERIAL RESEARCH
One thing I wanted to try was a different way to utilize cardboard as a medium. I started by layering cardboard and then craving into the created shape. The result was something that in my mind resembled islands.I also envisioned them being displayed on the wall, so I played around with the way they would look in a corner of a room higher up.
PROJECT 1:
A SCULPTURE LIKE YOU AND ME
notes and ideas:
examples/maquettes:
Went into the wood shop to get started on my project! 09/27/2021
SOME PROGRESS SHOTS FROM THE WOOD SHOP DAY
Final versions of sculptures. Not sure yet if I am going to paint them.
PROJECT 2:
How Does it Feel?
Senses I want to explore:
Hearing – sense of sound
Time – sense of time passing
Equilibrioception – sense of balance
Proprioception – sense of our own body parts
Kinesthesia – sense of movement
Initial thoughts:
A sound sculpture – involving noises that evoke a passage of time
An experience – sound and movement based. Everyone closes their eyes and either I would walk around, or they must walk around eyes closed, using only their sense of others movement and sense of space
Maybe a guided experience
Asking people to close their eyes and identify where I am in the room by listening to the movement of my feet. Dulling one sense to heighten the others.
This would activate hearing, kinesthesia, and proprioception.
Using a sense of their own body in space could they identify where I was within that same space.

Post meeting with juan:
Guided experience/meditation
The purpose is to connect people with the space they are in as well as their own bodies
Write a script to follow and read aloud to guide people through the experience
Asking them to close their eyes and imagine the space as something it isn’t
Imaging the feeling of the other space
Connecting with your body and your body to the spaces you inhabit

10-15 min experience
After first test run-through:
More breathes in and out throughout the experience
Put emphasis on movements being very slow and methodical (deliberate)
Work on the language of the instructions further
Make sure language is embodied in the space
Moving head slowly around the room to take in things was strong as well
Emphasize the importance of the initial look around the room being very slow
Language here is important
Examples “start in one corner of the room” “look up and around”
Different type of singing bowls, lower pitched
